About the Artist

Imagined worlds. A life in colour.

I am a British artist working primarily in paint, creating imagined landscapes, figures and narrative scenes that sit somewhere between the familiar and the unreal. None of my landscapes are based on real places. I prefer to invent them, often beginning with a colour, a shape or a single subject and allowing the world around it to develop as I paint.

01 / Imagining

I focus on the familiar and the unreal.

Ships, water, clouds, animals and figures appear repeatedly in my work, but the setting is never simply a backdrop. I am interested in atmosphere, scale and the way a familiar scene can begin to feel slightly strange. Working from imagination means I can change the light, exaggerate a wave, alter perspective or allow a natural form to become something less easily defined.

02 / Colour & process

Layers of colour and
space for possibility.

Colour is central to the way I work. I am particularly drawn to deep blues, turquoise, violet, coral, ochre, pink and gold, often balancing large areas of cooler colour with smaller moments of warmth. My paintings are built in layers, moving between broad, expressive marks and more carefully resolved details. I like some areas to remain loose because they leave space for the viewer to bring something of their own to the image.

03 / An evolving practice

From the figure
to the wider world.

A changing perspective

My earlier work focused more closely on portraiture and the figure, although strong colour, vessels, animals and imagined imagery were already present. Over time, I became increasingly interested in the world surrounding the subject. That shift gradually led to the imagined landscapes that now make up much of my work.

A sense of scale

The paintings range from intimate pieces to canvases several feet across. I enjoy working at a larger scale because the image begins to occupy the room, particularly when the subject is water, sky or a landscape with no fixed boundary.

04 / Beyond the canvas

Ideas, storytelling
and instinct.

Alongside painting, I have spent much of my career in creative leadership, developing visual ideas, teams and systems for complex projects. That experience has influenced how I think about composition and visual storytelling, but painting gives me somewhere to work more instinctively and to leave things unresolved.
